In Japan, the brighter economic picture

In Japan, the brighter economic picture of the first 6 months of
2002 failed to carry over into the second half of the year.
___________. This was no doubt influenced by rising
unemployment which is now at a record high.

    A) External demand supported Japan's exporters to some degree, but
the domestic market was at a low ebb
    B) The year 2003 will doubtless be another difficult year for the
    Japanese economy
    C) Recovery looks like being slow
    D) This uncertainty gave rise to a cut in interest rates
    E) Once global investor confidence returns, equity markets will, in all
likelihood, start to perform well again

Do you think E is the correct answer?
