    Question understandable?

    "a considerable amount of the paintings, gemstones and drawings that are sheltered today in The Hermitage, were bought by Catherine II’s emissaries."

    I prefer a considerable "number" as they're all countable. Nevertheless, it does sound like a normal native speaker. But one who has made a slight slip, in my view.
