    Why definately?

Quite few of my English firends (from UK), write definately with an 'a' instead of second 'i'. Coud there be a reason for this? Is there a difference between definately and definitely?

    Many thanks

"Definately" doesn't exist except as a very common misspelling of "definitely" in BrE. I don't know if the situation is same in the other variants of English.
