    runs the gallery now/commission/pipe down/reckon/in a nutshell/call it off

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am on the right track by the interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentences?

It’s Hillary who runs the gallery now.

run = to cause to function; operate; rule; manage

The painter gets a chance to make a sale and mom gets her commission.

commission = a fee paid to a person (broker or other financial agent) for negotiating a sale. The fee is based on a percentage of the sale price

I think I might, if you would pipe down long enough to tell me.

    pipe down = be quiet

You reckon to marry the girl, son?

    reckon = think, consider

And that’s the whole situation, in a nutshell.

in a nutshell = concisely, in a few words

I told him 97 times it wouldn’t make the slightest bit of difference to you or dad.

it wouldn’t make the lighest bit of difference = it’s unimportant

Are you going to play golf? :: No, I’ll just call it off.

call off =cancel some plan or undertaking

Tell him something has come up, something personal at home.

If something “comes up,” it unexpectedly happens.

Call the library and see if they got any dope on a John Wayne Prentice.

    dope = misinformation, mis-statements

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V.

run = to cause to function; operate; rule; manage I think this applies to organizations such as a business establishments where one has to organize it and take the important decisions about how it works, perhaps as the owner of the business
I run my own trading business.

The painter gets a chance to make a sale and mom gets her commission. Ok

commission = a fee paid to a person (broker or other financial agent) for negotiating a sale. The fee is based on a percentage of the sale price

I think I might, if you would pipe down long enough to tell me.

pipe down = be quiet. Yes, an idiom It has come from the navy, where the signal for all hands to turn in was sometimes sounded on a whistle or pipe
Pipe down, we are listing the music.

Do you reckon to marry the girl, son? Here the meaning implies decision which may not be appropriate.

reckon = think, consider = refer to holding opinions or views that are based on evaluation
He is reckoned an authority in management.

And that’s the whole situation, in a nutshell.

in a nutshell = concisely, in a few words Ok

call off =cancel some plan or undertaking Ok

Tell him something has come up, something personal at home.

If something “comes up,” it unexpectedly happens. It is a prasal verb having different meaning:to be referred to; arise:
The farm bill comes up for consideration next Monday.

Call the library and see if they got any dope on a John Wayne Prentice.

dope = misinformation, mis-statements it is a slang meaning; to figure out

    Thank you for your efforts.
