    Question Requestion for sentence correction

Please tell me which of these sentences is grammatically right and if so why?

Eventhough Federer lost the US Open Final in September to Del Porto, a player eight years younger to him, being a fighter, he made sure he did his best in defending the title, carrying it to five sets in another close finish.

Eventhough is mispelt and misused: even though is used to introduce a sub clause in which you state a circumstance that is at odds with the consequence(s) in the main clause.

Even though he tried hard, he failed. -- He tried hard, but, contrary to what one might expect from someone who tries hard to win, he failed.
Even though he failed, he tried hard

Even though he made sure he did his best to defend his title, Federer lost the US open final to Del Potro, a player eight years than him, in a close five sets.

Can "younger to" replace "younger than" in the sentence "Even though he made sure he did his best to defend his title, Federer lost the US open final to Del Potro, a player eight years than him, in a close five sets"....?

    No, it's "younger than".

Where and and in contexts can we use "younger to" or it is never used at all?

    Re: Requestion for sentence correction

Thanks. I now understand 'younger than' should be used for a comparison. I aso had a question in the sentence in the later part on the usage of 'with' or 'in 'where you'll have provided the solution as 'in'.

This sentence is from an article which is an ode to Federer for his figthing spirit even when he lost tennis matches. Hence 'being a fighter' is a key phrase which should not be removed in this case.

Can you show me how I can add it to the sentence altered below by svatnik

    Original Sentence
Eventhough Federer lost the US Open Final in September to Del Porto, a player eight years younger to him, being a fighter, he made sure he did his best in defending the title, carrying it to five sets in another close finish.

    Modified Sentence given by svartnik
Even though Federer made sure he did his best to defend his title, he lost the US open final to Del Potro, a player eight years than him, in a close five sets.
