    comma

I wonder if "1" and "2" have the same meaning.
If so, I would like to know which sentence is correct among "3" and "4".
    1. I felt sorry for myself(,) being home alone on christmas day.
    2. I felt sorry for myself as I was home alone on christmas day.
    3. I felt sorry for myself being home alone on christmas day.
    4. I felt sorry for myself, being home alone on christmas day.

    Re: comma

    Hello wowenglish1

The rule: use a comma before for, and, nor, but, or, yet:

    1. I felt sorry for myself(,) being home alone on Christmas day.
The sentence below admits ambiguity. That is, it has two meanings:

    2. I felt sorry for myself as I was home alone on Christmas day.

    • as = because
    • as = while

    3. I felt sorry for myself being home alone on Christmas day.
    4. I felt sorry for myself, being home alone on Christmas day.
