    The dreaded placing of apostrophes

    Hi,

I am puzzled by the old apostrophe-placing dilemma again. I hope someone can help me and can explain the reason why I am right or wrong.

If I am to write the name of a building, i.e. The Tribunals Hearing Centre, should there be an apostrophe after the "s" or not at all? My thinking is that it is a centre set up "for" Tribunal hearings not a centre "of" tribunal hearings as the latter doesn't seem to make sense.

Any sound help would be much appreciated.

I would not use an apostrophe there. I wouldn't even pluralize tribunals, however.

I agree Kon, but then I dislike apostrophes in much the same way that GBS did.

I would agree with your reply as to the singular and no apostrophe. I also agree that apostrophes are hateful things when used incorrectly and should not be used in place names unless absolutely necessary. However, in this case I have to accept the plural, but argue against the apostrophe "eloquently" and persuasively to people much more influential and educated that I am. Your thinking on the matter would be much appreciated.
