Is there something wrong with this sentence?

I have several friends who have a problem with this sentence:

The children of deaf parents typically learn to speak verbally as well as other children, often from other family members, according to studies and anecdotes.

It is the opening sentence of an article - I read the rules but not sure if I should post the url? If so, I'll do that. Anyway, I've been looking at it for awhile and can't figure out what's wrong with it. Please help?

    Thanks!

I don't see anything wrong with this sentence. If you moved the "according to..." to the front, you de-emphasize what you want to emphasize -- that this is about the children of deaf parents.

The semantics are kind of awkward. What about?

Children of deaf hearing impaired parents learn to speak verbally often acquire language from other family members.

I am not a teacher of English.
Studies and anecdotes show that children of deaf parents often learn to speak from other members of family.
