    find

I wonder if there is a subtle difference between "1" and "2".

    1. If you get stuck in traffic, don't get angry.
    2. If you find yourself stuck in traffic, don't get angry.

    Re: find

The concrete state of affairs they denote is the same, but the signified mental attitude is different in that 1 is more neutral in value judgment while 2 is slightly optimistic or positive: "if you find yourself...." seems less negative about it.

    Re: find

I also have a question about the word find.

Can find be used in this sentence instead of think?

I think this is an alright idea!
I find this is an alright idea!

In German, it's possible (and very usual) but I don't know if it's possible in English as well.

    Cheers!

    Re: find

Yes, absolutely, but not with "alright idea."

    Re: find

    Thanks.
    Okay then probably with:

I think he is a nice person.
I find he is a nice person.

And why not with "an alright idea"?

    Cheers!
