    Had or was having

    Hello!
I have already mentioned that I mostly use English in online games.
Therefore I always face with new problems and I try to ask them there.

    Example.
    (Situation in a Shooter).
I'm having a few health points and I get defeated by an enemy.
Would it be right if I write:
"Well, I only had a few health points..."
    or
"Well, I only was having a few health points..."

I mean there are 2 things which happen simultaneously.
While I'm having a few health points I get defeated.

Would be nice if you could explain it because I really don't know when to use "had" and when to use "was having".

Thank you and I hope my examples are not too strange!
(I try to keep them clean )

    Cheers!

You'd have to use "Well, I only had a few health points..." in this case.
You can't use "have" meaning possession in the present or past progressive (continuous).
You can say "They are/were having a good time"; "I am/was having a baby". These don't indicate possession.
