    A bit of background: Greek phi was bilabial, whence our 'symphony','emphasis' etc. Spanish has no unvoiced bilabial fricative, whence sinfonía, énfasis etc.

    The interesting thing (interesting to me at least) is that the preceding nasal assimilates: 'mph' (Eng), 'nf' (Spanish). I wonder what the Spanish spelling of 'Aphrodite' is I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was Afrodite.
