    adjectives

    1-I was amazed by the beautiful fields and mountains of the land I had left as a small child.
    2-I was amazed by the beautiful fields and the mountains of the land I had left as a small child.



    3-I was amazed by the beautiful fields, and mountains, of the land I had left as a small child.
    4-I was amazed by the beautiful fields, and the mountains, of the land I had left as a small child.


    In which of the above sentences:
    a-the adjective 'beautiful' applies to 'mountains' (ie. the mountains are beautiful)
    b-the adjective 'beautiful' does not apply to the 'mountains'
    c-we can't tell

    The words between the commas in 3 & 4 are supposed to have been added as afterthoughts.

    4-I was amazed by at the beautiful fields - and the mountains - of the land I had left as a small child.

    The commas don't serve your purpose. If you wish to express it as a separate thought, use dashes.
