Red kangaroos hop along on their powerful hind legs and do so at great speed. A red kangaroo can reach speeds of over 35 miles (56 kilometers) an hour. Their bounding gate allows them to cover 25 feet (8 meters) in a single leap and to jump 6 feet (1.8 meters) high.
Hello, I seem not to be able to understand the part with their bounding gate from an article about kangaroos. I am aware the word bound means to jump and the word gate describes a part of a fence, yet I cant make up what the above mentioned collocation stands for. I suppose it is not their jumping over gates which allows them to reach the distances, is it?
Will you open my eyes?

The correct word is gait. I have never before seen 'gate' used in place of 'gait'.
