    Question cannot or can not

    Please advise how can we write "cannot" or "can not"

    I use the single word "cannot" 99% of the time compared to "can not" (but use "can't" 99% of the time compared to "cannot."

    I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
