    include or includes

Example 1 > The softwares I have used includes abc software, efg software and xyz software.

Example 2 > The phones I have used includes nokia and samsung.

    Hello,

For the 2 sentences in the example, should I used includes or include?

    Thanks

    Re: include or includes

First, it should be software. (The word software is its own plural.) Say: "The software I have used include abc software, efg software and xyz software." Also, say: "The phones I have used include Nokia and Samsung."

    ('software' is an uncountable noun)

The singular is includes. (He includes me in everything.) The plural is include. In the first example, we don't know that software is plural until we know that we are talking about three kinds of software. In the second example, we know, of course, that phones is plural. In both cases, use include.

    Thanks for the replies,

    I have some more questions.

Example A) The software I have used includes abc software.
Example B) The software includes free updates for life.
Example C) The software include free updates for life.
Example D) The software comes with free updates for life.
Example E) The software come with free updates for life.

    Are these sentences right?

"Software", as has already been explained by the other posters, is an uncountable noun, it is always treated as singular grammatically, so C) and E) are wrong.

This problem doesn't arise, because your sentence would be phrased differently:

"The software I have used includes Microsoft WORD, SAGE Payroll v2009, and..."

I second that opinion. (Yes, I realize this means I am disagreeing somewhat with what I said previously. Who's perfect? )
