    Being picked on by

    Hi,

    Is this sentence correct?

"After so many years of being picked on by, it was my turn to be a little higher on the totem pole."

    Thanks,

    MG.

    Re: Being picked on by

Yes, it's correct. But it could be said this way:After so many years of having been picked on by, it was my turn to be a little higher on the totem pole.

Thus, using the perfect participle passive (having been picked on...), we emphasize the fact that the activity of being picked on by (superiors) happened before my rising in the hierarchy.

I can't see the purpose of "by" in this sentence. Otherwise it's alright.

I'll be stronger than Ray. The "by" is incorrect unless you state who was picking on you.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
