Would you be kind enough to explain to me why knowing the beginning of the poem “Halfway down a by-street of one of our New England towns stands a rusty wooden house, with seven acutely peaked gables, facing towards various points of the compass, and a huge, clustered chimney in the midst.” we accept the title “The House of the Seven Gables” and not “The House with the Seven Gables”?
Why you say “sacks of potatoes” and not “sacks with potatos” or “a vase of flowers” and not “ a vase with flowers”?
Thank you for your efforts.
If I really understood your question, Vil, there's nothing wrong with:
A vase with red flowers... etc
