    Re: into

Break into:to enter a building or car by using force, in order to steal something.

    Examples:
    - Someone broke into my car and stole the radio.
    - Her house was broken into last week.

It's the prepositional part of a phrasal verb. The verb is 'break into'.
Actually any verb that can take a preposition after it can be used this way - whether is recognized phrasal verb or not.

Here's some other random examples, using different tenses:
decide upon. This is the plan that we decided upon. (We decided upon this plan).
search for. That's isn't the word I was searching for. (I wasn't searching for that word).
run after. This is the cat that the dog had been running after.
look through. Where is that catalog I wanted to look through?

Wanting to steal something is not the only reason to break into a place. For example, the fire department will break into a building that is on fire and has locked doors.
