Thumbs down can what is said as "Don't" mean "yes"?

In my listening class, I've found two similar conversations which seem to mean "no", but they mean "yes" in the end, how do you understand it? Can you help me here?
    Conversation1
Woman: Surely you don't eat at that expensive restaurant.
    Man:Not often , I don't.
question: What does the man mean?
answer: He really likes to eat at that restaurant.

    Conversation 2:
Woman: Surely, you don't like cooking yourself!
    Man: Not much, I don't.
question: What does the man mean?
    Answer: He likes cooking.

Listen closely to the stresses and intonation when the response 'Not much, I don't' is spoken in both conversations and consider that it may be sarcasm.

Thank you for your tip. But can you be more specific and explain or describe the stress and intonation in it?

It is difficult to understand or explain such responses without actually listening to the dialogue Mary. I gathered from the context only that the man was being sarcastic in his response. It is the only thing that I can suggest and I am sorry if it is of no help to you.
