    whether

Let us say I am preparing a group of students for an exam. I am sure that Harry, Pete, Jane and Henriette will pass but I don't know whether Tom and Jim will pass or not.
    Can I say:

1-I don't know whether two of you will pass the test or not.
2-I am not sure that two of you will pass the test.

Let us say I am preparing a group of students for an exam. I am sure that Harry, Pete, Jane and Henriette will pass but I don't know whether Tom, Sally, Joe and Jim will pass or not.

    Can I say:
3-I don't know whether some of you will pass the test or not.
4-I am not sure that some of you will pass the test.

    Re: whether

    In my opinion,

1-I don't know whether the two of you will pass the test or not.

2-I am not sure that the two of you will pass the test.
    ...
If we remove the definite article, the meaning changes thus:

I am not sure that the number of students who pass is two.

    ....
3-I don't know whether some of you will pass the test or not.
4-I am not sure that some of you will pass the test.

Shouldn't that be "if" or "whether"?
