    Cool shot away

    Is this sentence:

They wanted to burn us out from a long bow shot away

    saying

They wanted to burn us out using a long bow from far away ?

In this context, they are using fire-arrows, so I think they are talking about a big fire-arrow

    Thanks a lot

It is saying that they wanted to burn them out from the distance of a longbow shot. The longbow, the weapon used by the English in Medieval times made them feared throughout Europe. It was very powerful, it had a range of about 250 metres and an archer could fire about 6 arrows a minute, 3 times the rate of a crossbow.

Thank You, quite interesting. Let me ask you , then, it is not an only longbow, they can be a lot, can't they? Is it a metaphorical sentence?

There can, of course, be different types of long bows and short bows, but the longbow is a particular type of bow, traditionally made from Yew wood, and measuring 6ft 6inches (2 metres) in length.
