Please, can you give some more examples for a phrase that could be used for announcing that your essay is coming to an end.
For example such as:
To cut the long story short....
To summarize, etc.
You may resort to the following ones:
-In a nutshell
-As we have seen/as demonstrated above/as
-On the whole
-in the final analysis
- Having considered...
I remember being scolded in high school for saying "as a conclusion", a phrase which may look a bit "blunt". However, I don't know if there is consensus over the ban of this phrase. Using the passive form is always a good choice and it very often pays off. "We" can be used as well, as in the second example, although some teachers regard passive turns of phrase-especially impersonal ones- as bing slightly superior and less clumsy.
