The Negative Outcomes of Legal Marijuana

    Hi,

I'm not a teacher to begin with. I was wondering if u could help me paraphrase this sentence:

The ‘gateway’ concept, which has been around for a long time, suggests that “users’ trajectories offer them choices as they start their trajectory of use and that one of the choices is to use other drugs”

There is a concept/ theory which is called "gateway", and according to the theory, those who start taking drugs will, in the long run (after a period of time), develop a tendency toward taking (= they are tempted to take) other drugs or do other deviate things .

Trajectory: is a technical term, but I think as a figurative sense, it can be used to mean the result or consequence of something.
