    thought/think

    Hello everyone,

*what is the difference in meaning between these 2 sentences:

-I thought I already did it.
-I think I already did it.

    Thanks in advance

There is nothing here for you to be confused
They are just different about the time the subject's thought appears: in the past or now (because we don't use 'think' in present continuous tense when 'think' means 'believe')

    Re: thought/think

Essentially the same; however, its use can vary.

Thought is usually used when one is confident of the fact that he or she has already done something.

Think is used to indicate hesitation. You are not sure whether or not you truly did do it already.

Try to pronounce it out. Think sounds like a weak work whereas thought has a stronger tone.

Both are incorrect in BrE, "I thought I had already done it" "I think I have already done it" are correct and much clearer in meaning.

"I thought I already did it" is correct. Why is it wrong?

It may be correct in AmE, but that structure is incorrect in BrE. As I said before, in BrE "I thought I'd (I had) already done it" is the correct structure.
