    christmas card query

    when signing our christmas cards-should I use the possessive form with apostrophe use-or es -our last name ends in s.

    ie Love from the Jons' or Jonses

    You should pluralize a surname if the letter/card represents the family as a group rather than you alone. Always add -s or -es. Names ending in -y do not change to -ies like common nouns do. Some examples:

    Smith -> [the] Smiths
    Jones -> [the] Joneses
    Rodriguez -> [the] Rodriguezes
    Libey -> [the] Libeys
    Daly -> [the] Dalys

    You may recall the common expression "keeping up with the Joneses".
