    Tenses

My sister asked me which tenses can be used in writting a diary, she think they are present continuous and simple present but I don't know what to answer. Please give me your opinion.
    Thank you

Diaries are used to discuss daily events. You should use past tense.

For instance, if you went to the mall at 9:00 am and are writing the journal at 9:00 pm, then you would write

    Dear Journal,

Today, I went to the mall.

    You would not write

    Dear Journal,

I am going to the mall/ I am at the mall.
