    "SMARTY PANTS" Compliment or Insult?

Would anyone please tell me if it is rude to call someone a "smarty pants"? Thank you for your help!

smarty - Idioms - by the Free Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

You can also check Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) .

I believe that it'd be more thoughtful for the posters to check the web for the answers before sending a post. A simple search could provide the answers you are looking for. A search engine (both general ones such as google or specific ones such as the ones in the vocabulary, dictionary or idiom sites) is governed by a machine(or machines) coded to do some predefined works. But in the forums, the questions are answered by real persons. So have no hard feelings toward me,'cos it is not just about you, one can frequently see these kinda questions on the forum.

It is, I think, a comment that is often tinged with envy. "You smarty pants!" (I wish I'd've thought of that.) People are often a little resentful of people who are a little mentally quicker than they are.
