Using A or a when writing a family surname?

    Hi,

When signing my family surname do I use a capital A or a?

    For example: Allen or allen

Family names count as proper nouns, so take a capital letter,

There are exceptions, where the name is spelled with a lower case letter. "a'Death" is one such.
