    Teaching strategies advice

    Hello, everyone!

I have taught English for quite a few years, and now that I have found this forum, I would like to ask for a little help. I have these two students that are very afraid to talk. They can both do it in class, but when it comes to the real deal, they just freeze and feel terribly frustrated. I have repeatedly told them they have to watch TV in English (with subtitles in English, that is a given), that they have to go through magazines and printed material; we have done all of this and we have gone through websites, many hours of conversation (during which, of course, we have continuously had the chance to correct some more flaws), a lot of vocabulary and grammar exercises, which, by the way, they are amazingly good at, but still, they have not obtained the results they would like to.

Is there anything I can do to actually pull them out of this problem? What else should I try? I encourage them to give it a shot in spite of the mistakes they might have, to not fear criticism -and besides, that doesn't really happen that often- and to begin once and for all trying as hard as they can.

Any advice will be highly appreciated, and thank you in advance for your time. =0)

Encourage them to make friends with native speakers.
