Hi!
I know some occasions in which "never mind" is said in response. but i was wondering if someone can say it in this context: -thank you for the ride. - never mind.
i think "you're welcome" or "don't mention it" are more appropriate. what do you think?

I don't think "don't mention it" is appropriate either, since he just affored help & you did not do him a favor.
Thanks for the ride. --> Response: Don't mention it!
'Never mind' is normally said when someone apologises for doing something (or at least looks apologetic or ashamed):
A 'I'm awfully sorry; my hand slipped and the vase ...' B 'Never mind; I didn't like it anyway.' (Apology)
or
A 'I shouldn't have done that. I'm sorry.' B 'Never mind - just don't do it again.' (Shame)
