    Past perfect

    Teacher,
I had read a grammar book about past perfect tense and it says there that you use past perfect for something which started ealier and was still going on at the time you are talking about.

Please check if my example of past fercect tense is right.
"Jane had lived in Japan ever since she was a girl."

    Can I also say,
"Jane lived in Japan ever since she had been a girl."
If this sentence is wrong, please explain why.

    Thank you.

Not exactly, it should be understood this way: you use past perfect to show that something started in the past and continued up until another action started in the past (Not at the time of speaking)

Both the sentences are correct. The 1st sentece however does not convey any real meaning. You could say:Jane had lived in Japan till she was a teenaged girl.
