    use of thus

Is the use of thus correct in the following sentence? We were late to the game, thus causing us to miss the opening. If it is incorrect please tell me why.

No, it's not correct, either "thus" or "causing" are redundant, "thus" already ecompasses cause.
We were late to the game, thus, we missed the opening. or We were late to the game, causing us to miss the opening.
