    Re: what does it mean

Thread hijacking (sometimes called 'thread-jacking') is when a user changes the initial message of a thread sufficiently enough that it has become something that is wasn't, or lost the original purpose.

It is comparable to changing the subject, or going off-topic during a conversation, or indeed, manipulating someone's words to make it seem like they meant something they never intended to mean.

It is part of a broader term called 'netiquette' (a combination of 'net' (as in network/internet) and 'etiquette') which is a sort of unofficial guideline of how to behave online, in chatrooms/forums etc.
