Why do we using word "Oyster"?

Why do we use this specific word "Oyster" in this proverb - ''THE WORLD IS YOUR OYSTER.''

It comes from ancient times I guess. Symbolical meaning of oyster - something that deep under the surface but it can be achieved by person. Persons who diving into a sea and harvesting oysters to sold them later.

    Any guesses or explanations?

Oysters have two benefits - they were believed to increase virility, and they could provide a valuable gem, a pearl. To find a pearl might mean that you became a rich man overnight.
