    'on' or 'in'

I saw this [on/in the news.
I read this on/in the paper.
    I read this on/in a magazine.
Look it up on/in the dictionary.
Look it up on/in the map.
In cases of these, the preposition would be 'on' or 'in'?
Please help me to clarify. Thank you.

On the news would likely mean the television.
In the news would likely be a newspaper
The others are all "in" expressions, although with a map it could be either in or on since it is something visual that you are looking at.
