Amity is a word which means friendship, for example as in:

    - Their lives were busy and full of amity

    - Now again we will bury the hatchet, again
We will burnish the links of our amity's chain. (E. M. Chandler)
    - To my native place / Bent upon returning, / Bosom all day burning / To be where my race / Well were known, 'twas much with me / There to dwell in amity. Thomas Hardy, 'Welcome Home,' in Lyrics Late and Earlier, 1922

I guess this word is not common in everyday English. It is extensively used in titles, ads, websites and similars, as you can easily check by a google search.

    Re: use

I'm pretty sure I've never used this word in my life. It's not common in the US, but perhaps it gets more use elsewhere.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
