(NOT a teacher) Do you wish to say something like: I came here last year from Germany because I wanted to study English. (P.S. Some native speakers say it's OK to also say "because I WANT to study English," if you are still studying English now.)

(NOT a teacher) (1) What idea do you want to express in No. 1? I think that maybe you want to answer the question: Where are you from? Then you should answer: "I'm from Germany" or "I come from Germany." (2) Your second sentence consists of two sentences. In fact, it is NOT "bad" English, but native speakers write like that ONLY for emphasis. Writing teachers, I am sure, would advise that you not write like that. It is too "choppy" (not smooth). You should combine them into: I came here last year because I wanted to study English.

Question please do it for me!!

Beside each word below write down the part of speech and the meaning of each word as you would explain it to an intermediate learner of English. On the words, show where the mainstress falls (e.g. on the word intermediate it falls on the third syllable med). Write down any difficulties the learner might have if they looked up a translation of each word.

    1) Sophisticated

    2) to branch

    3) an article
