    couple of questions for adepts

    Hello to everyone,

may you assist me with the following inquiries:

    1) trying to express the situation by a verb when students in a course come and go.

May I replace it with "exchange"?

Example: I never see the same students longer time in our English course. Students just come and go.

    2) the verb chisel - i always thought it might also convey the idea of making something precise or polishing skills, language, etc.

Can I use the word chisel also in a figurative way or is it uded only it the sense of manual carving?

I chisel my English speaking skills.

thanks for your time and effort

    1) Sorry, you can't use exchange.
    2) Chisel doesn't work, but you can say: "I am honing my English speaking skills."

what verb can i use instead of exchange, then?

I am trying to say that people come and leave and i never see them for long. They basically rotate but that would mean they are coming back after a while, wouldnt it?
