    Article Question

When creating a chart/table, the article seems to be skipped.

Is there a grammatical rule for it or just a convenience sake?

Ex. Atlantic Ocean instead of "the" Atlantatic Ocean, Atlantic Region vs "the" Atlantic Region

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Article Question

    Hi!

Oceans and seas - among others - take the definite article when used. The is used with names of geographical areas, oceans, seas, deserts, capes, gulfs, ranges of mountains, groups of islands, etc.

e.g. the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, the Dead Sea, the Black Sea, the Carpathians, the Virgin Islands, the Cape of Good Hope, etc.

    Re: Article Question

In headlines, tables, charts, headers, bullet points, and other abbreviated forms, it's common to drop articles or sometimes auxiliary verbs, or other components of a regular sentence.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
