    is this sentence good

Dear experts, could you, please, tell if the sntence below sounds OK in English.

"One can become a better problem-solver if they listen to, get to know and understand other people’s problems;better listeners are better problem-solvers."

If you're going to start with "One", you should stick with it:

"One can become a better problem-solver if one listens to, gets to know and understands other people's problems. Better listeners are better problem-solvers."

If you really want to use "they" for the rest of the sentence, then I would suggest:

"People can (could) become better problem-solvers, if they listen(ed) to, get (got) to know and understand (understood) other people's problems. Better listeners are better problem-solvers."

As you can see, how the sentence continues would depend on whether you chose can or could at the beginning.

"One can become a better problem-solver if one listens to, gets to know and understands other people's problems. Better listeners are better problem-solvers."

I agree with this correction, but would put a comma after 'know' to save the reader from having to go back over the sentence when they read "gets to know and understand[s]".
This is more necessary if the plural is used.
They need to listen to, get to know, and understand the problem.

With "They need to listen to, get to know and understand the problem" there is an ambiguity about whether 'understand' is the complement of "need to" or "get to". Yes, it's a serial comma, and sometimes these are good to use. Besides, there's a pause here.
