    ***NOT A TEACHER***I THINK that the sentence means something like: At last, we arrived at the magnificent Hotel Europejski, where we saw a VERY TALL doorman whose uniform reminded people of the kind of uniforms worn by NAPOLEON BONAPARTE's GENERALS.

    Yes, "a giant of a ....." is used to mean very big. "My cousin is a giant of a man" would mean he was very big or very tall.

    And Napoleonic means from the time of, or associated with, Napoleon Bonaparte.
