Exclamation Is the word "interest" well applied here?

    Hi, I have this sentence:

X is a technique whose central interest is improving modularity.

Do you think interest is well applied here? I think not, since improving modularity is more of a concern of X...
However, I can't use concern (due to already using it too many times). Can you give me a synonym? Or interest is correct?

    Regards.

Could you say "X is a technique the main purpose of which is to improve modularity"?

purpose’ can certainly be a better alternative for the adjective ‘central’ used in the sentence (Central purpose). But can you not go for another adjective, such as: major, main, key, or primary? Then you can have wide choice of matching words like, purpose, objective, rationale, reason etc.
