    It cost me five dollars to buy the T-shirt.

    1. It cost me five dollars on the T-shirt.
    2. It cost me five dollars for the T-shirt.

    Which prep. is right?

    I guess both are correct for my examples, but using "for" for "to cost" sounds better to me.

    I agree. But 'It' must take a singular verb. If the sentence is converted to interrogative form, it looks as if both can work.
    How much does it cost you on/for the T-shirt?
    It costs me 5 dollars on the T-shirt.
