Amanda grew up in a very small village in Tanzania. She was the only child to her parents. Her father was unemployed and her mother owned a small groceries store. At the age of twelve Amanda was helping her mother at the store after school. Although her father was unemployed did not help at the store. As a result, he was sexual, physical, and emotion abused her.

Sexual abuse is the most shaming of all abuses. It can include anything from making a sexual reference, to someone feeling uncomfortable and even rape. That’s was how Amanda mother’s went through with her father experienced sexual abuse. Amanda’s mother self-esteem was very low. She knew it was wrong for her father to treat her that way sexual, but she felt helpless to do anything. Mostly because she believed that she had to obey her husband’s rules even though were bad decision for her. For example he would come home at midnight drunk and forced her to have sex with him. However, she would tell her daughter about everything although she was very young for her age to handle the conversation.

In addition, he was physical abuses her. He was very jealous man, therefore, he was very disapproving of any girlfriends her mother had. For instance, one of her mother’s friends Lisa always invited her mother over to her house, but her father would not let her go. There were times; she did go without his permission. As a result, he thumps her in front of his daughter. Amanda run to a neighbour for help, however the neighbor they had, his personality was similar to her father. He believed in beating and controlling women.

Furthermore, her father constantly emotion abused her mother. In comparison the Royal Beatings story we saw how Rose was emotion abused by her step mother Flo. We could compare her with Amanda’s father. On the other hand in both stories they owned a groceries store. However, Amanda’s father was abusing the store by demanding cash to buy alcohol. Because of too much stress at home, Amanda’s grades at school dropped. Her teacher was concerned, she told her parents. Amanda and her mother went to talk to the teacher and came up with a new plan for her to improve. Things got worse at home. Her mother could not take it anymore. She called her daughter in her bedroom when the father was not around. She remembers her mother told her that, “I love you very much and take good care of yourself. Also, when you are older, help women who are suffering like me”. That was the last time she ever heard from her mother. She killed her self.

Finally, sexual, physical, and emotion abused ended on that day. Her father did not have anyone to abuse. Few years letter, Amanda graduate from the University of Dar es Salaam, majoring Social Studies. She fulfils her mother dreams to help other women who were facing domestic violence. Amanda opened an organization on her mother’s name called “Linda Women Centre”. The organization was very successful and saved so many women’s lives.
