    Present continuous in a future context

    How could I best explain to an elementary student the above grammar point :D

    I would provide plenty of examples and carefully explain them. That is how I would learn it best.

    Suppose I am a grammar (elementary) school student. How would you explain to me the present continuous in a future context so I can understand it?

    I think the best way is to intoduce the grammar point within some sort of context, perhaps, in some authentic language, which matches your student's level.

    I hear complaints from a TEFL teacher; she's unhappy about her Turkish teacher because he's teaching phrases like "Ali is learning to swim". First, problem, the phrases aren't useful to her, and there's no real context. Now, she's bored and frustrated with her teacher.

    The present continuous for the future is a failry simple matter- it's used for appointments, etc, when they have been made, so it's a question of suplllying contexts, etc where it is used and contrasting it with the other ways we talk about future time.

    That is what I would do. I would supply some sort of context and provide plenty of examples. Then I would ask my students for some examples.

    How's that?
