    Re: passive voice

Middle verbs apart, a verb can be passivized if and only if it is transitive. Ask yourself the question, Is 'contain' a [T]? Yes. Middle? Yes. --> not passivisable

Middle Verbs - Glossary Definition - UsingEnglish.com -- Is it not ergative more than middle?

Strange. In CGEL, middle verb means something else.

It doesn't bother me to admit that when it comes to the grammar terms, I do suck. Most of them sounds Chinese to me, but I'm familiar with the term "passive voice", so I couldn't understand your point.
