The carbon-dioxide emission rates have more than tripled.

You go first, Frank. ;-)

Did you "second think"?

I have been puzzling over it. I even tried to think how you would say that in other languages like French, German, Portuguese, Spanish.

I wonder about Swedish, or, say, something really exotic like Hungarian.

I even considered the possibility of calling it a prefix to the verb, but I have finally come back to where I started. Compare it to "It did not triple".

In den letzten Jahren haben sich die Emissionen von Kohlendioxid in der Welt mehr als verdreifacht. (German)
I do not know the Swedish translation. :-D
Az utóbbi időben a széndioxid kibocsátás a földön több mint megháromszorozódott. (Hungarian)
In recent years, the carbon-dioxid emissions in the world have more than tripled. (English)

Well, the German looks to me as if it would diagram the same.

I can't imagine how you came up with the Hungarian, but maybe you have contacts that could help you figure out how it would diagram.

Incidentally my "Competitive Sentence Diagramming Club" met today -- all boys -- and they ripped into it. I told them about this site and you and Elizabeth O'brien etc. (which they listened to politely) but they were only waiting to compete.

Now, if I can only get them to actually know what they are doing ...

mehr als verdreifacht = more than tripled
több (more) mint (than) megháromszorozódott (tripled)

You know that, Frank. You know that very well. :)

What did you tell them about me that did not kindle their interest in me? I am so sad now. :-( ... ;-)

I do not understand this part.

Koldioxidutsläppen i Sverige har mer än tredubblats under senare år.

Well, if you diagrammed it in Sweden, you would likely diagram it in Swedish.
