I need to know the proper expression:

'The cheque is made to the amount of 100$.'

or

'The cheque is made in the amount of 100$.'

"to the amount" is common enough to be considered normal where I come from but, since you're in Canada, you should probably listen to 2006.

In India we use the following statements to express the amount of a cheque.

The cheque amounts to $100.
The cheque is for $100.
The cheque is made for $100.
