    What is a phrase?

Technically, I know the definition of a phrase is a group of words without structure. I understand prepositional phrases and participial phrases. If I put any two words together, is this grammatically a phrase? For example, are the words "pretty girl" a phrase grammatically?

Yes- a phrase is normally a group of words that have some sort of meaning, so this could be a phrase, or you could add a/the/that, etc.
