    Toefl reading

    Hi everyone,
Please help me with the Toefl reading:

    The Clovis Culture
" Archeologists have found sites all over North America that contain similar tools dating from a period about12,000 years ago. The culture that developed these tools has been named Clovis after the site near Clovis, New Mexico, where the first tools of this soft were discovered in 1932. The tools are quite sophisticated and are unlike any tools that have been found in the Old World."
(reading skill- page 53- longman preparation course)

According to P1, the town of Clovis
    A Is in Mexico
    B Was founded in 1932
C Is where all members of the Clovis culture lived
D is where the first remnants of an ancient culture were found

The answer is D but I've not found any town of Clovis in the passage. Is it a fault of the book?

The part I have highlighted in red refers to the town of Clovis. D is correct.

    Re: Toefl reading

Thanks very much, I've got it. Here is another paragraph

    Limestone Caves

Stalagmites are formed on the floor of a limestone cave where water containing dissolved lime has dripped either from the cave ceiling or from a stalactite above. They develop in the same way as stalactites, when water containing dissolved limestone evaporates. In some limestone caves with mature limestone development, stalactites and stalagmites grow together, creating limestone pillars that stretch from the cave floor to the cave ceiling.
(reading skill- page 60- longman preparation course)

It is NOT indicated in P3 that
A result when a stalactite and a stalagmite grow together.
B are attached to both the floor and the ceiling of a cave.
C are relatively aged limestone formations
D limestone pillars are more durable than stalactites and stalagmites.

I chose C but the answer is D. Can you explain me why D is the correct answer?

D is correct because nowhere in the text does it say that pillars are more durable than stalactites or stalagmites.

    Re: Toefl reading

    • It is not indicated in P3 that limestone pillars

C are relatively aged limestone formations
D are more durable than stalactites and stalagmites
but the passage doesn't say that "limestone pillars are relatively aged limestone formations".

The part I have highlighted means that the formations are relatively aged.
